Archdiocese supports visitor tax extension vote
SAN ANTONIO

A news conference to kickoff a campaign, A.C.T. for San Antonio, was held Feb. 11 at Concepción Park to show widespread support for the visitor tax initiative, which proponents say will benefit children and the community. A.C.T. stands for Athletics, Culture, and Tourism, all venues that will benefit from the bond package, according to the campaign’s supporters.

College sports: Alamo City bids to be NCAA championship city

NCAA officials are exploring a pilot program that could lead to bringing multiple championships events to cities like San Antonio as soon as next year.
San Antonio Sports Foundation officials were among eight cities that made presentations earlier this week to the NCAA in hopes of gaining “championship city” designation.

Beginning next month, Bexar County leaders and river boosters will begin a major campaign to convince voters to renew the venue tax, the additional levy on hotel rooms and rental cars that built the AT&T Center, which is soon to be paid off.
In addition to three other projects — amateur sports complexes, a performing arts center and upgrades to the AT&T Center — the tax would pay for the bulk of the southern reach and the section through Brackenridge Park, known as the park segment, that is unfunded.
