grounds & community arenas enhancements
The Freeman
Coliseum, livestock facilities, and AT&T
Center
$100 million of the Visitor Tax revenues will be used for
these facilities and include seating and safety enhancements
to the Freeman Coliseum, construction of new climate-controlled
barns for the comfort of animals and visitors to the Stock
Show and Rodeo, and technology and building infrastructure
enhancements to the AT&T Center when it is ten years old
in 2012. This will ensure that the county-owned facilities
continue attracting world-class sporting, entertainment,
cultural and other events.
Youth Scholarships
To date, the San Antonio Livestock
Exposition and Rodeo has awarded almost $80 million in
scholarships, grants and other educational commitments.
A record $7.6 million was awarded last year. Since the
San Antonio Livestock Exposition and Rodeo expanded to
include the AT&T Center, educational giving has increased
70 percent.
This year, the Livestock Exposition and Rodeo expects to
add 300 scholars to their program. The reason is simple:
growth of the event has attracted more sponsors and more
youth participation, therefore an ever-increasing number
of scholarships can be awarded. It's no coincidence
that since the Livestock Exposition and Rodeo expanded to
include the AT&T Center it has been named the best
large indoor rodeo three years in a row!
